Washington Commanders leader Coach Quinn has admitted he shares a portion of the fault for a major ailment to the squad’s quarterback, Daniels.
Jayden Daniels, who enjoyed one of the greatest rookie campaigns in history last season, sustained a dislocated left elbow in the Sunday defeat to the Seattle Seahawks. Although Daniels passes with his right arm, the issue has placed his season uncertain. The condition was serious enough that the television broadcast avoided showing repeats and several athletes turned away as Daniels was attended to by team doctors.
Coach Quinn came under scrutiny as numerous believed the rookie should not have been on the field in the first place. The incident occurred in the final period with the Washington behind 38-7, rendering a comeback improbable. It is typical in such situations for clubs to put in their backup quarterback to avoid injuries to their first-string player.
“I understand. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop, too, and, man, I erred,” he said of his choice to leave Daniels in the match. “That is 100% my fault.”
Marcus Mariota will be the Commanders’ primary QB from now on, but he will guide a roster in disarray. After making the NFC championship game the prior year thanks to Daniels’s excellence, the franchise have struggled this season. They also saw injuries to cornerback Marshon Lattimore (ACL tear) and pass-catcher McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on Sunday, and have a host of other key players on injured reserve. The Commanders are 3-6 so far, and it would require a massive turnaround for the team to make the postseason.
